Gombe governor’s convoy involved in fatal accident

At least one person has been confirmed dead and several others were left injured in a fatal car accident involving the convoy of Gombe state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya.

Daily Report Nigeria learnt that the convoy was returning to Gombe from the meeting of North East Governors in Bauchi State when the incident occurred on Thursday.

The driver attached to the press crew vehicle, Babangida, reportedly died on the spot while the Director General (Press Affairs) Ismaila Uba Misilli among other journalists who sustained injuries were rushed to the state Specialist Hospital in Gombe, the state capital.

Misilli was in the vehicle with other journalists who also accompanied the Governor to Bauchi for the meeting when the incident occured.

Eyewitnesses say the hummer bus conveying the journalists summersaulted three times before stopping.

Governor Yahaya and the journalists were in Bauchi on Wednesday for the 4th North-East Governors’ Forum meeting that held in Bauchi State.

He had stayed till Thursday to witness the foundation laying ceremony for the renovation and upgrading of the Bauchi State Government House by chairman of the Forum, Governor Babagana Zulum of Bauchi.

Governor Yahaya is said to have waited for all victims of the crash to be rescued before leaving the scene of the accident which occurred close to the boundary between Gombe and Bauchi.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the crash when contacted by newsmen.

He stated he could not give full details of the accident owing to the fact that it happened in the Gombe state axis of the boundary.
