Senators-elect from the South-East geo-political have expressed their disapproval towards the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC) zoning of the 10th president of the Senate to the South-South geo-political zone.
The group’s spokesperson, Ifeanyi Uba called on the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend the same democratic process that threw him up as the APC Presidential candidate to prevail.
Uba, who is returning to the 10th Senate on the platform of the Young Progressive Party has urged the President-elect to be mindful of the grave implications of zoning and endorsing a candidate from the South-South without any regard for the Southeast.

The group emphasized that such a move would no doubt serve as a recipe for an injustice that would culminate in restiveness.
They argued that the exclusion of the Southeast region has resulted in the country’s division along ethnic and religious lines.
The Senators implored Tinubu to correct this anomaly by ensuring that the Southeast was allowed to produce the next Senate President.

According to them, the South-East has been denied the chance of producing the president of Nigeria since 1966, while the South-South has produced Nigeria’s President for six years and also had a Deputy Senate President in the outgoing administration.
