Threads is branded “nearly identical” in format to Twitter.

The new app’s unveiling came after months of speculation and secrecy, with rumors first surfacing in March 2023.

Since its launch, Threads has generated over ten million users.

Findings indicated that Twitter took 780 days to reach that mega-milestone when it first opened to the public in July 2006.

Meanwhile, below are 11 things you need to know about Zuckerberg’s newest invention.

  1. Threads focuses on sharing short snippets of text on the free conversation-based platform.

  2. Signing up for Threads is simple, but an Instagram account is required to log in despite it being a completely separate app.

  3. Unlike Instagram, the new service can not be accessed via Threads.net (the website features a QR code that redirects users to the App Store).

  4. The platform is linked to Instagram. It requires an Instagram account is required to log in.

  5. Users can pen up to 500 characters.

  6. Threads allows users to share photos and videos up to five minutes long.

  7. The app is available in over 100 countries (with plans to expand further), though not in the European Union.

  8. Users don’t have to build a following on Threads from scratch.

  9. The “Twitter rival app” gives users the option to carry over their followers and followings automatically, including blocked accounts on Instagram.

  10. Users can not delete their Threads accounts without completely deleting their Instagram accounts.

  11. Users can deactivate their accounts if they choose, but they won’t disappear permanently.
