The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90, barely two days after celebrating his birthday. Here are key facts about his life, career and reign:

1. Full Name and Birth

Akinloye Olalere Owolabi Olakulehin was born on July 5, 1935, in Okugbaja village, Ita Baale, present-day Ibadan North East LGA, Oyo State.

2. 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland

He became the 43rd Olubadan after being crowned on July 12, 2024.

3. Early Education

He attended St James Primary School, Oke Akaran, and later St Peter Primary School, Aremo, Ibadan.

4. Teaching and Technical Education

After primary school, he briefly worked as a teacher before enrolling at Yaba Technical Institute for vocational studies in printing and artwork.

5. Civil Service Career

In 1959, Olakulehin joined the Ministry of Works, Western Region Government, Ibadan, as a third-class clerk.

6. Military Service

He enlisted in the Nigerian Army in 1970 through a Direct Short Service Commission and retired as a Major in 1979.

7. Post-Military Ventures

He founded FAKOL Nigeria Ltd, Olakulehin Press (later Solid Prints), and FAKOL Bakery in Ibadan.

8. Political Career

In 1992, he won a seat in the House of Representatives under the SDP and chaired the House Committee on the Nigerian Army.

9. Chieftaincy Journey

His rise in Ibadan’s traditional hierarchy began in 1983 as Mogaji of the Ige Olakulehin Family and culminated in his position as Balogun of Ibadanland before becoming Olubadan.

10. Coronation and Reign

He reigned for one year before passing on July 7, 2025.

11. Faith and Family

Oba Olakulehin was a devout Christian, married, and blessed with children.

12. Death

He died days after his 90th birthday celebration and during his first coronation anniversary.
