A horrific road accident has claimed the lives of at least 15 people, mostly children, in the Saminaka area of Lere Local Government, Kaduna State.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, around 1 pm, as the youngsters were traveling to celebrate Eid El Maulud, a Muslim festival commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

According to Commander Kabiru Nadabo, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna State, the driver of the J5 bus carrying the children lost control due to excessive speeding and collided with an oncoming articulated vehicle.

Nadabo stressed that the resulting crash was catastrophic, claiming the lives of 15 children on board, with 48 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency responders, including FRSC, Police, and Kaduna State Traffic Laws Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA) officials, rushed to the scene to provide assistance.

He revealed that the injured victims were transported to the Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka for medical attention, while the deceased were taken to Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital for identification and processing.
