The Rivers State Ministry of Sports has officially handed over a 17 year old student of the Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt to the police, following an allegation that he sexually assaulted a 13 year old female student in the school hostel area.
The Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, intervened after the student’s family reported the incident. A closed-door meeting was held with the accused student, the alleged victim, their parents, and the school management. At the end of the meeting, the ministry transferred the suspect to the Elekahia Police Division for further investigation.

According to the elder brother of the 13 year old student, Uche Sampson, the alleged assault happened on October 22, 2025. He explained that his sister stepped out of her hostel room to collect her clothing when the 17-year-old reportedly approached her and forced himself into a physical confrontation. She was allegedly overpowered in the process.
The family expressed appreciation to the Sports Commissioner for taking the matter seriously and for treating their complaints with sensitivity.
“He handled the situation like a father. He showed real concern and ensured we were heard,” Mr. Sampson said.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the Elekahia Police Division has begun investigating the report and that the case will be handled according to the law.
The ministry’s quick intervention marks a significant step in the growing demand for safety, accountability, and protection of minors within sports academies in Nigeria.
