  • Unknown assailants have struck again, as they intercept ABC Transport bus.

  • This comes a year after a similar abduction was done in February 2024, where passengers in two different transport busses were abducted.

In a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves through the nation, 18 passengers aboard an ABC Transport bus were kidnapped by armed assailants in Kogi State. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 16, 2025, as the bus traveled from the South East towards Abuja.

The ill-fated bus was intercepted at Oloma in the Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, a notorious border region between Kogi and Enugu States. Eyewitnesses report that the heavily armed gunmen forcefully commandeered the vehicle, leading all passengers, including the driver, into the dense surrounding forests.

Retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, the Security Adviser to the Kogi State Governor, confirmed the harrowing event and assured the public that a robust rescue operation is underway. “A combined team of security operatives, including the Military, Police, DSS, NSCDC, and Vigilante groups, have launched a manhunt for the abductors,” Omodara stated. He emphasized the synergy among security agencies and expressed optimism about rescuing the victims unharmed.

A Recurring Nightmare:

This incident is not isolated. In February 2024, passengers traveling in two commercial buses, including one from ABC Transport, were similarly abducted in Kogi State. The victims were later released after intense security operations.

Public Outcry and Government Assurance:

The recent spike in highway abductions has sparked widespread concern among citizens. The Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of travelers and residents alike. Omodara assured the families of the abducted passengers that every possible measure is being taken to secure their release. “We want Kogi to be a safe haven for all residents and passers-by alike,” he affirmed.

A Call for Vigilance:

As security forces intensify their operations, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly. The government continues to work tirelessly to combat the menace of kidnapping and restore peace to the region.

The Minister of the Federal capital territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has stretched out his hands to help the accident victims.
