Authorities in Edo State have uncovered a heartbreaking case in which a 12 year old boy, Emiliano Egwunbare, was kidnapped and later killed by his 18 year old cousin, identified as Tega Emajuwa. The incident happened in Obagie community, Egor Local Government Area, where the suspect had been living with Emiliano’s parents for months before allegedly planning the crime.
Investigations revealed that Emajuwa conspired with two young men — Edugie Destiny (20) and Osayande Vincent (23) — to lure the boy away on September 16, 2025. After the abduction, the family paid a ransom, expecting Emiliano to be released. Instead, the boy never returned.

The situation escalated when the family alerted the police. Using intelligence tracking, detectives arrested the cousin, who later confessed to the kidnapping and killing. His confession led investigators to a well in the community, where the boy’s body was discovered. Police sources said some organs were missing when the remains were recovered.
ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the heartbreaking discovery. She clarified that despite rumors circulated online, the suspects were never released.

According to her, the case was initially filed at Ogida Police Division before being transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit for deeper investigation. The three suspects were later charged to court on October 16, 2025, and remain in custody.
She emphasized that the victim’s mother was present in court and witnessed the proceedings, dismissing claims that the police freed the suspects.
The Edo Police Command assured the public that the case is progressing, and justice will be served.
