20 Villagers Drown While Escaping Bandits’ Attack In Zamfara | Daily Report Nigeria

Not less than 20 people have lost their lives while trying to escape bandits attack in Zamfara.

According to reports, the deceased, who are said to be villagers in Kali community of Gumu Local Government Area of Zamfara state were trying to escape the frequent bandit attack in the community.

Speaking on the incident, a resident who pleased anonymity said bandits attacked the community at about 1:00 pm last Sunday.

The bandits were seen moving towards Kalli village on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons to attack the community, which forced the villagers to flee for their safety,” he said

According to him,  the bandits are well known for terrorizing communities of Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kallin and Kazura villages, all in Gummi local government area, anf in a bid to flee to safety, the villagers overloaded the boat, which capsized along Birnin Magaji River, which led to the death of 20 villagers.

 

He explained that five corpses were recovered at Falale River, four at Birnin Magaji River, while three were also recovered at Gadar Gummi River.

The police are yet to speak on the incident.
