2022 Women’s Asian Cup: Iran Accused of Playing a Man as Goalkeeper

Iranian women’s football team has been accused of playing a man as a goalkeeper following two penalty saves by Zohreh Koudaei against Jordan on the 25th of September.

The 4-2 penalty shootout had sealed Team Melli Baanovaan’s triumph over Jordan in the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.

Following that, Jordan appealed to the Asian Football Confederation, AFC to look into the gender of the 31-year-old goalkeeper.

In addition, Nashmeyat Al-Urdon accused them of having history related to gender and doping issues.

Reacting, Maryam Irandoost, Iran team’s head coach brushed off the allegation saying Jordan only wanted to use it to mask their loss to Iran.

However, Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association posted on his Twitter last weekend, a letter requesting a gender verification check on Koudaei.
