A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Herman Hembe, has emerged flag bearer of Labour Party ahead of the 2023 elections in Benue.
Hembe, who is a serving House of Representatives member, had contested in the governorship primary election of the APC, which was cancelled following a petition by some aspirants who faulted the process that produced Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia as winner.
The National Working Committee of the ruling party then ordered a rerun on June 8 and 9, a contest Alia won by a landslide.

However, Hembe has addressed with disdain, the continuous mentioning of his name as a contestant in the rerun election of the APC.
According to the lawmaker, by the time the rerun election of the APC held, he had already emerged governorship candidate of his new party.
In a statement on Saturday, Hembe described the situation as mischievous.
He said “I gave notice to the party through my counsel of my withdrawal from the gubernatorial primary of the APC. The notice was served on the party on the morning of May 26, 2022, several hours before the party purportedly changed the mode of election from indirect to direct primary.
“I followed up my notice of withdrawal from the race with a notice of resignation of the APC membership, which was served on the APC Chairman of the Mbake Ward, Konshisha Local Government Area.”
