2023: Atiku Not in Presidential Race —  Sen Smart Adeyemi

Smart Adeyemi, the Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, has dismissed the chances of the People Democratic Party’s standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar in the presidential race.

Adeyemi argued on Monday that the PDP candidate had no place, stressing that the upcoming presidential election on February 25 was between the All Progressives Congress’ Bola Tinubu and his Labour Party’s counterpart, Peter Obi.

He insisted that Atiku was only interested in privatisation and hence, the PDP candidate should not be voted for.

The Senator said:

Why will anybody ask you to vote for Atiku? Was he not in charge of privatisation? Was he not the one who sold out assets to non-performing companies? All those who do not know the history will be shouting Atiku. Atiku is not in the equation.”

According to the senator, the reason he supported Tinubu and Shettima was because of their track records.

Adeyemi said:

I am supporting Asíwájú and Shettima not because they are APC but because of their past records and down contemporary issues in the Nigerian nation.

“We must commend the northern governors for supporting the power shift to the south.”

He, however, argued that Obi’s structure in the North had collapsed and that the LP candidate had lost his chance in the race.

He said:

“I am from Kogi. There is no Labour Party presence in my constituency. Winning an election is about strategic thinking and planning, not about talking too much.”
