Ijaw youths in Delta State have queued behind the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sheriff Oborevwori as sole candidate for the 2023 poll.

This was revealed by Delta Ijaw Youth leaders from across the five Local government areas Ijaws are domiciled in the state.

The group also threw its weight behind the unveiling and adoption of the Delta Assembly speaker by elders, political leaders of Ijaw extraction earlier in December.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that a committee of Elders and Leaders led by Chief (Wg Cdr.) P. Y Biakpara had publicly declared Oborevwori as the only governorship candidate Ijaws will vote for in 2023.

In a ceremony that was held at the prestigious Wellington Hotel on December 23, 2022, Biakpara said the move was a unanimous resolve by the Ijaws.

In same vein, the Delta Ijaw Youths in a consultative visit to the elder statement, said it was following the lead of the Elders.

The youths noted that they would execute the declaration by the Elders to the latter by way of sensitization, canvassing and mobilization of the needed support for Oborevwori.

Spokesperson for the group, Comr. Austin Okporu in his presentation, said the visit was for the youths to inform the former federal lawmaker of their mandate and to sought for his blessings.

In his remarks, Biakpara expressed delight that Ijaw youths in the state were queuing behind the leadership to pursue the Oborevwori course.

While issuing his blessings, Biakpara promised the youths all necessary support towards achieving their mission.

He said;

“Today is one of the happiest days of my life because we’re all speaking in one voice for Ijaws in Delta State.

“The fact that you have towed the part of Ijaw elders, political leaders in embracing Sheriff Oborevwori as sole governorship candidate, means that campaigns are over.

“Seeing you my children growing up so fast to partake in the decision making process in our nation is commendable. This time we will get it right.”

He further added that what Nigerians need right now is a PDP government from the Presidency to State House of Assemblies.

The Delta Ijaw Youths were led by Chief Frank Akiefa – Chairman, Pudiya Biakpara – Coordinator, Hon Ken Oyakemeagbegha – Vice Chairman 1, Christian Talbort – Vice Chairman 2 and Barr. Jerry Otuaro – Vice Chairman 3.

Others are Barr. Tarakiri ThankGod- Secretary, Comr. Okporu Ebi Augustine – Spokesman, Comr. Jennifer Oki – Treasurer,
Hon Afore Felix- Mobilization Officer, Comr. Jude Magada Media/Publicity, Hon. Hossana Fetimi – Organizing Secretary, Barr. Jeffrey Oromoni – Legal Adviser, and Rt. Hon Spencer Takeme – Adviser.
