2023 Elections: How APC Won 7 Delta Assembly Seats

The March 18, 2023 Delta assembly elections will go down in history for opposition political parties, especially for All Progressives Congress, APC.

The main opposition party fought its way through as it secured seven Delta State House of Assembly seats at the end of the election.

While the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) displayed superiority in winning majority of the seats to the legislative chambers, the APC had a modest show of strength.

Below are members-elect of the Delta State House of Assembly under the APC.

Egbetamah Ovie Collins – Udu Constituency

2023 Elections: How APC Won 7 Delta Assembly Seats

Egbetamah’s caused a major upset in the race for the Udu constituency seat.

The APC candidate defeated the incumbent Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Jite Brown, who is considered a close ally of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Egbetamah polled 11,210 votes ahead of the incumbent Council Chairman and PDP’s brown, who scored 8,976 votes.

His victory was instrumental to the APC’s governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege winning Udu LGA in the governorship election.

Spencer Ohwofa – Ughelli North 2

Barr. Obokpare Spencer Ohwofa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was winner of the Ughelli North Constituency II by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The board member of the Orogine Foundation secured victory ahead of early favorite, Onoriode Agofure of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ohwofa polled 13,157 votes to ahead, Agofure who scored 11,911 as Alexander Eyamu of the Labour Party came in third place with 2246.

Omonade Matthew – Ughelli North I

Barr Omonade Matthew was declared winner of the state assembly election for Ughelli North Constituency 1.

The protege of the APC presidential campaign spokesperson, Festus Keyamo triumphed over PDP’s Victor Ohwogaga.

Edafe Emakpor – Uvwie

Barr Edafe Emakpor caused a major upset in the race for the Uvwie constituency.

Emakpor triumphed over incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Solomon Ighrakpata of the PDP.

Ighrakpata, a prominent figure in Delta politics, is the incumbent Deputy Chief Whip of the assembly.

Benson Obire – Warri South Constituency 2

Benson Obire of the All Progressives Congress defeated incumbent member of the constituency, Matthew Poko Opuoru

Alapala Ebitonmo – Burutu Constituency I

Amb. Alapala Anthony Ebitonmo perpetrated perhaps the biggest upset in the just concluded assembly elections in Delta State.

Alapala overcame the incumbent house member of the constituency and candidate of the PDP, Asupa Forteta.

The APC candidate polled 7296 votes to defeat Asupa, who gathered 6416.

Asupa counts as one of Governor Okowa’s strong allies in Burutu LGA. He is a former Council Chairman and former commissioner for Urban Renewal.

Blessing Achoja – Ethiope West Constituency

Blessing Achoja of the APC was declared winner for Ethiope West constituency ahead of David Onogba of the PDP.
