The senatorial primary election for the Peoples Democratic Party held on Monday across the three Senatorial Districts in Delta State, with familiar faces clinching the tickets.

Former House of Representatives Member, Ned Nwoko, coasted home to victory in the Delta North Senatorial District, scoring 240 votes.

His opponent, Paul Osaji only polled 66 out of a possible 306 votes.

The popular billionaire presents a tough battle for whoever emerges flag bearer for the All Progressive Congress, APC.

The Delta North Senatorial District is currently occupied by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi of the APC, who won the seat under the PDP before jumping ship.

Senator Nwaoboshi had defeated Ned Nwoko via a tribunal to occupy the seat in 2019.

In Delta South Senatorial District, Michael Diden, who resigned his position as Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission, DESOPADEC, to contest the seat clinched victory with 176 votes.

The former House of Assembly Member dusted a former Warri Federal Constituency representative, Daniel Reyenieju and Ayodele Oghogho Othihiwa, who scored 49 and 46 votes respectively.

Diden, popularly known as Ejele, an evangelist looks set to replace Senator James Manager, who is in the race to succeed Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as governor of the state, after 20 years in the Red Chamber.

It was a tough one in the Delta Central Senatorial District, even though Chief Ighoyota Amori clinched the ticket.

The former Commissioner, who lost the 2015 election to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Labour Party, polled 142 votes ahead of his opponent, John Nani with 123 votes.

Amori is reportedly anointed to succeed Senator Omo-Agege, who is contesting the 2023 governorship seat under the All Progressive Congress, APC.
