Mixed reactions have continued to trail the choice of running mate to the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi.

Daily Report Nigeria had reported that foremost businessman and politician, Dr. Doyin Okupe was announced as vice presidential candidate of the third force.

The choice has left many Nigerians in shock as they wondered if Okupe was the best of choice the party could make.

While there are indications that he is only being used as a placeholder until the party put its house in order, Nigerians cannot fathom why the party chose a South-South ticket.

To make matters worse, both Peter Obi and Doyin Okupe are Christians, leading to concerns that the party has no structure and support in the North.

See some reactions to the announcement of Doyin Okupe as running mate to Peter Obi.

Prosper Jesuteke wrote, “So Peter Obi doesn’t have any Northern friend that he can choose as VP on Place Holder. This joke is too expensive!”

Preye Polokowei wrote, “If you can’t choose a running mate. How then can you manage Nigeria?”

Tare Magbei said, “Report say Doyin Okupe is only a placeholder. Couldn’t the placeholder be a Muslim too? They want to spoil things before things even get started?”

However, ardent supporters of Peter Obi still expressed optimism that the party would get it right at the end of an ongoing talks for coalition.

@VictorIsrael said,
Wether na Doyin Okupe o
Wether na Speedy Darlington o
Wether na Wizkid o
Wether na DJ Cuppy o

I don’t care! All I know is that once I see @PeterObi and Labour Party on the Ballot paper, that is where I’m casting my vote to. We what? We move!

@Valentine said, “Mr Doyin Okupe is currently the labour party vice presidential candidate until the party provides another one as is allowed by INEC. He’s STANDING IN as the VP.

@Odogwu wrote, “Peter Obi is too smart to waste this golden opportunity he has by choosing Doyin Okupe as running mate.

There is no chance that Doyin Okupe will be Peter Obi’s running mate.

Doyin Okupe himself said on Channels TV that he’s a “Placeholder”.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission had given political parties a deadline of June 17 to submit presidential candidates along with their running mates.

So far, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the running mate to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kabir Ibrahim Masari for the All Progressives Congress, and Doyin Okupe emerged from the Labour Party.
