The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reiterated its commitment to the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System in the 2023 general elections.

According to INEC Chairman, Mahnood Yakubu, the commission has no plans to renege on the usage of BVAS for next year’s polls.

The Commission also insisted that the results for the 2023 general elections would be transmitted electronically.

Yakubu stated this while speaking at the speaking at the Quarterly Consultative Meeting with Leaders of Political Parties on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the Commission’s conference room, Abuja.

However, Yakubu, who also noted that there will be no usage of incident forms in the 2023 elections, said;

“Let me once again reassure Nigerians that there is no going back on the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation.

“There is no going back on the transmission of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) in real-time on Election Day.

“There will be no Incident Form that enables ineligible persons to vote using other people’s Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) during elections.”

The clarification is coming on the heels of numerous speculations that the electoral umpire was under severe pressure to not use BVAS.

Also, several speculations have been made that some bigwigs in the All Progressives Congress were working round the clock to remove Yakubu as INEC Chairman over his insistence on the usage of BVAS for the elections.
