2023: Okowa Assures of Completion of Ayakoromor Bridge

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has reassured completion of the infamous Ayakoromor bridge in no distant time.

Okowa, who is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 poll, gave the assurance on Tuesday when the Atiku/Okowa campaign train visited Burutu to canvass support for the party.

Expressing regret on the slow pace of the project, Okowa blamed the delay in the completion of the all-important bridge on the ineptitude of the previous contractor.

Calling on the people to exercise patience as the project has been re-awarded to a competent contractor, Okowa said;

“If you look at Burutu town, it is not the way it was in 2015. If you go to Ogulagha, we have done a lot in that place. DESOPADEC recently completed a model school in that place and we have many other places that we have touched.

“One thing I want to reassure us because I know that there’s something you people are not happy about. That is the Ayakoromor bridge. Unfortunately, the contractor has not been doing well.

“And recently, we removed the contract from that man and re-awarded it to Setraco. By next week, we’ll mobilize Setraco to site and to finish that bridge,” he said.

The governor poured encomiums on the Burutu people over their continued support in voting for the PDP in previous elections.

He appealed to the people to deliver “Ogbonge” votes for the Atiku/Okowa ticket as well as other candidates of the party in the 2023 general elections.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that the Delta State Government had in October, terminated the Ayakoromor bridge contract, after it gave a 15-month completion timeline in January 2022, following an upward review of the contract sum.
