Kwankwaso had earlier visited Ogbonicha, the country home of late Prince Abubakar Audu, before returning to a hostile reception by a faction of the NNPP in Lokoja.
Witnesses say the factional members were aggrieved over a perceived higher prominence the presidential candidate was giving to Audu’s loyalists, who just recently joined the party.
They accused Kwankwaso of keeping them waiting since the early hours of the day, only for him to abandon them for Audu’s loyalists.
They also labeled Audu’s loyalists as still members of the ruling All Progressive Congress in the state, as they refused Kwankwanso an audience after he arrived in a motorcade.
He was whisked away to a popular hotel by security operatives who intervened to save the situation
The incident was confirmed by a media aide to Kwankwaso identified as Musa Yunusa, who described the action by the members as a normal in politics.
He assured that Kogi State was home to the NNPP presidential candidate.
