Prominent socio-political activist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, has vowed to work against any presidential ticket that presents Peter Obi as a running mate in the 2027 general election.

Yesufu made the declaration in a viral video circulating on social media, where she criticised ongoing discussions suggesting that the former Labour Party presidential candidate should deputise another contender in the next election cycle.

Speaking emphatically, Yesufu described the idea as unacceptable, arguing that Nigerians habitually push their strongest and most competent candidates into subordinate positions instead of fully backing them for leadership roles.

She warned that should Obi emerge as a vice-presidential candidate in 2027, she would oppose such a ticket “in her little capacity,” insisting that competence and empathy should not be rewarded with political demotion.

Drawing parallels with gender bias in Nigerian politics, the activist likened Obi’s situation to the treatment of women, who she said are often denied leadership opportunities and routinely assigned deputy positions regardless of merit.

Yesufu stressed that Peter Obi represents empathy, compassion, and genuine concern for citizens’ welfare, qualities she believes should place him at the forefront of any serious presidential contest rather than in a supporting role.

Her comments come amid reports that Obi, now a member of the ADC following the formation of an opposition coalition, is among several figures positioning for the party’s 2027 ticket.

There are also speculations that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may emerge as the party’s flagbearer and possibly pick Obi as his running mate.
