The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, says the party will decide President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 running mate after its national convention, which typically holds a year before the general election.
Dr. Basiru made the statement during an interview on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme aired Friday morning. He noted that the APC has not commenced discussions on a potential vice-presidential nominee for 2027.
“The question of running mate is not yet onboard, and nobody has come to say that the President has made any adverse decision as regards the present Vice President,” Basiru said.

He added that the party’s national summit at the Presidential Villa had endorsed Tinubu for a second term, based on his track record and broad stakeholder support.

The APC scribe also dismissed speculations that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced, noting that no formal decision has been taken on the matter.
Meanwhile, a recent endorsement of Tinubu in Gombe State by APC North-East stakeholders sparked controversy after Mustapha Salihu, the party’s Vice Chairman (North-East), omitted Shettima’s name during his declaration.
Sources say Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State led protests against the omission, insisting that Shettima—his political ally and fellow Borno indigene—must be included in any re-election endorsement.
