  • There are indications that more governors elected on the platform of the PDP ahead of 2027 election may move to APC.

  • Moves by the PDP governors to dump their party may not be in connection with lingering and unresolved crisis in the party.

  • According to a source, the prelude to the defection is the fact that while some governors have begun visits to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

Indications have emerged that several governors elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be contemplating defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to sources, the governors’ alleged defection plans are not necessarily connected to the lingering crisis within the PDP, but rather a strategic move to secure their political futures.

It was gathered that some of the governors have already begun secret consultations with top aides of President Bola Tinubu, including the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has already come under pressure from PDP leaders in his state to clarify his position on the defection rumours.

During a recent visit to Enugu State, Tinubu commended Governor Peter Mbah for his leadership style and commitment to development, describing him as a “focused and result-oriented leader.”
