FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says he won’t contest against President Tinubu in 2027, even if PDP zones the presidency to the South, affirming loyalty to the APC-led administration.

Despite being in Tinubu’s government, Wike vows not to leave PDP, criticising internal threats from South-East leaders and defending his influence and contributions to the party.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ruled out contesting the 2027 presidential election, making it clear he has no plans to oppose President Bola Tinubu, even if his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), zones the presidency to the South.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike stated: “I will not contest again, I should contest against somebody I’m working with? Who would win it if not him (Tinubu)?” He reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu’s administration, while also making it clear he would remain in the PDP.
“I can’t do that, I’m not afraid – how will I build a house and you now ask me to vacate the place? It’s you that will leave the house, not me that built it.”

Wike also slammed some South-East PDP leaders who reportedly opposed his ally, Samuel Anyanwu. “Achike Udenwa… has no single National Assembly member, he didn’t give his party three percent of votes, yet is threatening. Sam Egwu… is empty – which threat is he issuing?”
He added that despite stronger political standing, “We that have produced governor, National Assembly members have not issued any threat.” On PDP zoning plans, Wike said: “When we get to the bridge, we will cross it. But they are fraudulent and I have told them that it will kill them.”
