- Former VP calls report “malicious fabrication” by Tinubu’s APC camp.
- ADC opposition coalition vows to challenge APC in next elections.
- Atiku says Nigerians have embraced ADC as credible alternative.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims that he was asked to step down for a southern presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the reports as “malicious propaganda” from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media office in Abuja, Atiku denied attending any meeting where he was reportedly pressured to withdraw from the race. He insisted no such proposal was ever brought to him.
“There was no such meeting. Atiku Abubakar was never in attendance. The entire story is a malicious fabrication — pure fiction cooked up in the propaganda kitchens of the Tinubu-led APC regime,” the statement said.

Atiku, who recently participated in the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the political platform of a broad opposition coalition, accused APC leaders of trying to sow discord among opposition ranks.
“This is nothing but a diversionary tactic — an attempt by a faltering administration to derail the momentum gained by the successful unveiling of the ADC,” he added.
Atiku’s camp reaffirmed the opposition’s unity and resolve to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government in the next election cycle, vowing that no “propaganda, planted stories, or faceless briefings” would disrupt their preparations.
“The massive and growing support the ADC continues to enjoy across the country is a clear signal that the Tinubu administration is living on borrowed time,” the statement read.
Atiku’s media office urged Nigerians and the press to ignore the report, describing it as lacking credibility and factual basis.
