Peter Obi has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election as a candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), making it clear that he is not interested in playing a subordinate role within the party.
Obi disclosed this while addressing supporters during a campaign rally for ADC candidates contesting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Speaking at the event, the former Anambra State governor stressed that his political journey within the ADC is aimed at securing the party’s presidential ticket, not a vice-presidential slot. He described the upcoming AMAC election as strategically important to his wider ambition ahead of 2027.
Obi urged party members and residents of the council to support the ADC candidate, noting that victory in the local poll would strengthen his political momentum at the national level.
According to him, his participation in the forthcoming elections is as a frontline contender, adding that his leadership role would become clearer as events unfold.

“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.
Meanwhile, supporters of the Obidient Movement have continued to mount pressure on the ADC leadership to adopt Obi as the party’s sole presidential flagbearer for 2027.
However, the ADC is also home to other heavyweight politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, setting the stage for a potentially competitive primary race within the party.
