Ticket now open to all eligible southerners, says party youth leader
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its 2027 presidential ticket will be zoned to southern Nigeria.
The decision, revealed on Wednesday, comes ahead of key meetings involving the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), Board of Trustees (BoT), and caucus in Abuja. These meetings are expected to address unresolved issues from previous congresses and prepare for the PDP’s forthcoming national convention.
PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Mr Timothy Osadolor, confirmed the zoning move, saying: “The PDP has opened the presidential ticket to all eligible southerners. We are zoning to the South.”

Party insiders say the decision is part of a broader plan to strengthen the PDP’s internal structure and reaffirm its commitment to equity in power-sharing arrangements.
Meanwhile, founding members under the Consultative Conference of PDP Founding Fathers and Stakeholders are set to meet in a bid to reclaim the party’s core values and steer it back to its original direction.
The zoning decision is expected to spark fresh permutations within the opposition party as potential aspirants from the South begin jostling for the PDP’s ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
