Although, personal terms are yet to be made final. Newcastle will be prompt to complete the deal in time for Willock to be available for the season’s opening game.

Willock was left out of Sunday’s pre-season friendly at Tottenham because of the completion of the deal. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said the reason would be explained when they can.

The 21-year-old has been Newcastle’s number-one target all window after a successful loan spell in the second half of last season. Willock scored eight goals in 14 appearances. He also set a new record of being the youngest player to score in seven consecutive games. Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has made his desire public to see the midfielder return to the club this summer. Last month, Steve said that they would keep badgering away to secure his signing.

Back in July

In July, Bruce showed frustration because the Gunners were refusing to negotiate a deal for Willock.

He said with Arsenal, what are they going to do? They’ve brought in two midfield players. Then he said that’s the starting point, with Joe, because let’s be fair, he had an unbelievable three or four months with his club. But there has to be a time when they will know if it will be yes or no? There has to come a time when there’s a cut-off and to find out what’s happening, and they’re still trying their utmost, he said.

What is there for Arsenal to benefit from?

Arsenal’s chances of signing James Maddison from Leicester this summer could boost with fresh funds potentially now available for Arteta.

Maddison has shown an understanding of availability. He is interested in joining Arsenal, even though Leicester finished above the Gunners for the last two Premier League seasons. There are still speculations about whether Arsenal can raise a fee that Leicester would accept for the 24-year-old.

Currently, the club has already spent £50m on signing defender Ben White from Brighton. However, the North London club is exploring alternative ways of structuring the deal, with a cash-plus-players offer a possibility if there are available Arsenal players that interest Leicester.
