No fewer than 30 passengers were feared dead on Sunday following a tragic road accident involving a trailer in Kano State.

The accident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Kwanar Barde, along the Gezawa axis, when a trailer travelling towards Gujungu crashed, allegedly due to reckless driving.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the impact of the crash was severe, leading to the instant death of many passengers, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss of lives, describing the accident as heartbreaking and a major tragedy for the state.

The governor conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and sympathised with those injured in the crash.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant their families the strength to bear the painful loss.

He also prayed for the speedy recovery of survivors currently receiving medical attention in different hospitals across the state.

Governor Yusuf directed the Kano State Ministry of Health to ensure that all victims admitted in public health facilities receive immediate and free medical treatment.

He further instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to promptly assess the situation and recommend appropriate support measures for the affected families.

The governor cautioned motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to avoid reckless driving and strictly comply with traffic regulations to prevent future tragedies.
