The Kwara State High Court has sentenced five individuals to death by hanging for their involvement in the notorious Offa robbery incident.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the verdict was delivered on Thursday afternoon, with the court concluding that the prosecution had convincingly established the guilt of the defendants.

The convicted individuals, Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salahudeen Azeez, and Niyi Ogundiran, were found guilty of illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide, six years after the heinous crime took place.

Presiding over the case, Justice Haleemah Salman declared that the offences committed were punishable by death.

The robbery, which occurred in April 2018, saw a gang of audacious criminals storm Offa town in Kwara State, targeting at least five commercial banks.

It was a brutal attack which resulted in the deaths of numerous individuals, including nine police officers, and the theft of an undisclosed amount of money.
