A tragic accident occurred on Warrake Road in Owan East Local Government area of Edo State on Thursday, resulting in the loss of five lives.

The campaign convoy of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 21 governorship election, was involved in a fatal collision with a Toyota Camry car.

The driver of the car, Emmanuel Edionwe, and four other occupants tragically died at the scene, while another victim was rushed to the Irrua Specialist Hospital.

It was revealed that the deceased were returning from a funeral ceremony when the accident occurred.

According to a witness, the campaign convoy was traveling at high speed when one of the vehicles veered off and hit the Camry headlong.

Reports added that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Edo State University, Uzaurie Mortuary in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

The Edo State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident to newsmen.
