A Nigerian man has emphatically declared that the Headies Awards is way ahead of Grammy.
Michael Enaigbagha took to his Facebook account to list five reasons the Nigerian awards should enjoy better patronage than the Grammys from Nigerians.
Enaigbagha pointed out that the Grammy was “purely Eurocentric”, doesn’t truly represent African interest, adding that “it was designed by the West as a manipulative tool to downplay the creative ingenuity of the African sound that’s currently ruling the musical world.”

His reaction follows the widespread condemnation the Grammy Awards 2024 received as the worst ceremony in history.

His post read in part;
“This piece is my little way of exposing the worthlessness of the so-called self acclaimed global most prestigious musical award (Grammy) by comparing it to the financial and market value with the Nigerian HEADIES.
“1. it is on record that a Grammy piece of today’s value is worth only $15 which is equivalent to #18,720 naira while a piece of the Headies which is usually design with 20karat gold as of today’s market value is about #491, 271.96 thus making it way much more valuable than the Grammy.
“2. No Grammy award comes with any monetary value i.e cash doesn’t follow it while a whooping 10 million naira accompanies each Headies award in any of the categories.
“3. The Grammy doesn’t have any of the categories that’s Next Rated but our Headies has a Next Rated category with a brand new car worth millions of naira with the last being a Bentley worth 100 million naira thus making the Headies ahead of the Grammy again.
“4. The Grammy doesn’t allow the consumers (public) of the songs to vote for their preferred song/artist but rather, a board of directors who are music merchants to vote for songs they have no clue about in their private offices while the Nigerian Headies allow the public who are the direct consumers of the songs to vote for their best and favorite songs/artist thus engendering transparency in the voting process.
“5. The Grammy is purely a business venture that is organized under the guise of show biz to cash out from unsuspecting African artist while the Nigerian Headies is purely design to recognize, promotes, appreciates and encourage our creative ingenuity etc.
“Now that we have seen the worthlessness of the Grammy, it is high time everyone in the music business task themselves to make our own awards events top notch.
“Not just Nigerians but Africans must initiate, develop and organize their own music and other entertainment awards events to promote and appreciate our creative ingenuity and stop the West from taking advantage of our crafts.”
