Men of the Lagos state police command have arrested a suspected cultist in the state.
According to reports, the suspect was with his allies planning an attack when police officers closed in.
The raid was conducted on March 19, 2025.
According to a confirmation by the spokesperson of the state command, Ayuba Umma, the police raided the area following credible intelligence about suspected cultists raiding and terrorizing the Ijebu-Ife area in Ogun State.
He added that the Zonal Dragon Squad II of the command led by DSP Akeem Adeyemi, upon receipt of the information swung into action.
The cultists, upon sighting the police ran away through the bush, but the police were able to arrest Orekoya Abayomi, a 54-year-old man.
“On March 19, 2025, police operatives raided a hideout where the cult group was allegedly planning an attack. During the operation, 54-year-old Orekoya Abayomi was arrested, while other members escaped through a nearby bush. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of one locally made single-barrel pistol, six live cartridges, 21 suspected fake voter cards bearing different names, one Emerald pump-action gun with breach number 1335,” the statement partly read.
