The rising casualty toll follows reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes earlier in the conflict.

Iran’s temporary leadership council held its second meeting on Sunday, where President Masoud Pezeshkian pledged to continue the policies of the late leader and warned Washington and Tel Aviv that the attack would not weaken the country.

Pezeshkian called for national unity during what he described as a period of mourning and resistance, adding that Iran’s armed forces remain prepared for further confrontation.
