Former governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, has said that prominent political leaders are clamoring for the adoption of Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential flag bearer in the 2023 election.
Nnamani said yesterday, at the end of a series of consultative meetings with stakeholders and political leaders, including his political movement, the Ebeano family, that the South-East should be supported to produce Nigeria’s next President after President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term ends in 2023, in the spirit of fairness and equity.
“Our leaders, including the Ebeano political family in Nigeria and the diaspora, have consulted widely and firmly believe in the election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, and President in 2023,” Nnamani said in a statement released to the media on Sunday.

According to the ex-governor, who now represents Enugu East in the Senate, Nigeria is crippled by a slew of socio-economic and political issues that require a consensus builder in the mold of Governor Ugwuanyi to address.
He argued that Ugwuanyi, as the PDP leader in the South-East, has an enviable record as a consensus builder with all segments of society and that the governor is the architect of Enugu state’s political harmony today.
“Governor Ugwuanyi is humane, tolerant, and accommodating,” he says. All traditional rulers, clergy, labor unions, the business community, and the political class attest to his unusual leadership abilities
“No part of the state is marginalized or denied its rights.”
His successful handling of the PDP zoning arrangement assignment, which brought peace among party faithful across the country, demonstrates his ability to build consensus, with the emphasis that “he managed the assignment 100% and blemish-free.”
He accomplished this in a matter of days, demonstrating his competence and arbitrage abilities.”
Nnamani also praised the governor for the cordial relationship he has had with labor unions since taking office, saying, “Governor Ugwuanyi’s relationship with labor unions is unprecedented.”
There has been no record of a labor dispute with any workers’ union since he took office. He runs an open administration that is well-liked by all stakeholders. He is the type of leader Nigeria needs as President.
“Governor Ugwuanyi is patient and a master of give-and-take, which is required in consensus building; a good listener and negotiator with demonstrable competence,” he added.
This is exactly what the country requires at this time.” Governor Ugwuanyi is the right person to lead Nigeria out of its current rut.
He has demonstrated the ability to soothe frayed nerves while also ensuring equity and justice for all. He possesses the finesse, panache, and good leadership qualities required to restore Nigeria’s peace, unity, and progress.”
Senator Nnamani stated in Ugwuanyi that Nigeria can be assured of even development, a peaceful and prosperous country where everyone, regardless of tribe or religion, will feel a sense of belonging under one nation.
Senator Nnamani urged the PDP to conduct a search no longer for a Presidential candidate but to provide an opportunity for the South-East to demonstrate that Nigeria can function by awarding the 2023 Presidential ticket to Governor Ugwuanyi.
Nnamani expressed optimism that Ugwuanyi’s candidacy will bring the PDP back to power “given his competence and readiness to make a difference.”
Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are clamoring for the South-Eastern Presidency in 2023.
Former Senate President Pius Anyim and ex-President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, Sam Ohuabunwa, both of the PDP, as well as the APC quartet of Senators Rochas Okorocha, Orji Kalu, Dr. Chris Ngigi, and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state, have all expressed interest in the 2023 Presidential race.
