Six individuals were on Tuesday arraigned before an Igbosere Chiefs Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly pirating a film titled “Malaika” produced by Toyin Abraham.
The defendants included one Kehinde Oseni, Adekunle Segun, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni S Akano, Mrs Agboola Motunrayo, and Mrs. Adebiyi Suliat.
They were brought before Chief Magistrate E O Ogunkanmi by police lawyers from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos.
All defendants were charged with conspiracy, attempts to pervert justice, and intellectual property theft.

According to the prosecutor, Moruf Animashaun, the defendants conspired and committed the alleged illegal acts sometime in January at Apapa.
Animashaun further told the court that the defendants’ actions were in contravention of sections 411, 972, 415, and 87 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and punishable under the same laws.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After their not guilty plea, Animashaun urged the court to remand them in the Correctional Center until the determination of the charge.
Abraham described the Malaika film as personal therapy.
