A total of 62 individuals were arrested during a midnight enforcement operation carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce on Friday, May 23, 2025.
The operation, which began around 1:30 a.m., focused on several locations across Lagos Island that authorities say have become hotspots for criminal activities.

Officials explained that the action was prompted by a noticeable surge in illegal occupation and unlawful behavior in these parts of the city. The Lagos State Government noted that the crackdown was part of a broader strategy to improve public safety and remove individuals regarded as “undesirable elements” from public spaces.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the enforcement through a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
“In continuation of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, operatives of the Environmental Taskforce team set out at about 0130hrs on Friday, 23rd May 2025 and embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island,” Wahab stated.
He revealed that 59 men and 3 women were among those apprehended during the raid and emphasized that the operation succeeded in restoring order to the affected neighborhoods.
“The areas visited during the operation include Victoria Island, Falomo, Eko Hotel, Osborne and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed,” he noted. “Sanity was restored in all the areas.”
Wahab added that all individuals taken into custody will face legal proceedings, saying, “All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
