Tragedy struck the Umucheke community in Okwe, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday night, as gunmen brutally murdered seven community leaders.
Reports stated that the victims were attending a meeting at the residence of the president general of the community, who was also killed in the attack.
The Imo State Police Command told Channels on Sunday, with the Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, revealing the Commissioner of Police’s condemnation of the “very unfortunate” incident.

Okoye added that the Commissioner, Danjuma Aboki, described the attack as “saddening” and assured that the Command is working to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the heinous crime.

Reports disclosed that the latest attack is part of a disturbing trend of violence in Imo State and the broader South-East region, which has witnessed numerous attacks on security agents and innocent civilians in recent years.
It was said that last week, four policemen were ambushed and killed in the Irete community along Onitsha Road in Owerri, the state capital.
The attacks have reportedly left many in the region on edge, and the latest incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for increased security measures to protect lives and property.
