7 Dead, Many Injured as Electric Cable Fire Rocks Plateau | Daily Report Nigeria

A fire incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Kabong, Gada Biyu in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State killing at least five people.

The fire was attributed to a high-tension cable that bridged with service wires which supplied electricity to the community, resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

The fire also consumed goods at the business premises and left others injured during the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Naomi David, 54; Abraham David, 39; Maryam Ibrahim, 28; Yusuf Ibrahim, 32; Aisha Ibrahim, 25; and two other unidentified persons.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Mortuary where some of the injured were treated and those with severe burns were referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital.

The Jos Metropolitan Development Board team visited the scene to ascertain the level of damage caused by the inferno and how to avoid future occurrences.
