At least eight people died in Friday in an oil tanker fire in the Ometan community, Okpe local government area, Delta State.
It was said that the tanker lost control and exploded while overtaking another truck near the boundary bridge between Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Area.
The blast razed nearby buildings, trapping and killing some residents.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori visited the scene, offering condolences to the affected families and community.

Oborevwori said:
“On getting here, I saw dead bodies and those who witnessed the unfortunate incident.
“It is a very sad situation and I commiserate with the people of Ometan community and families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident.”
The incident occurred just four days after a gas tanker explosion in Rivers State, which also caused multiple fatalities and property damage.
