The federal government has taken a significant step towards improving its air defence capabilities with the acquisition of RPA-200MC mobile 3D primary radars

The first of the nine primary radars procured arrived in the country Friday night, according to Defense News Nigeria.

Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, led a team of top officials from the ministry to receive the equipment.

The radar will ensure that both friendly and hostile aircraft in Nigerian airspace are promptly detected.

Developed in Argentina, it is derived from the long-range version RPA-2403D mid-range air defense mobile radar.

The system can detect low-speed as well as low-altitude targets. It can be used in national defence, border control and civil air traffic control.

The primary 3D radar supplied by INVAP is the first of its kind to be exported from Argentina to any African country
