Ohanaeze chieftain tells NASS to postpone Tinubu’s inauguration

Chuks Ibegbu, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called for the postponement of President-elect, Bola Tinubu’s inauguration.

Ibegbu also called on the National Assembly to extend President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration by three months, beyond May 29, 2023.

In an interview with Daily Post on Wednesday, Ibegbu asked the National Assembly to invoke the provisions of the doctrine of necessity to extend the tenure of incumbent administration.

He added that the inauguration of Tinubu was not sacrosanct at this time saying that all court cases regarding the recent elections be concluded before a new government be sworn-in.

He said, “The National Assembly should make a resolution to extend Buhari’s tenure by three months as nothing is sacrosanct about May 29.

APC Invites Peter Obi to Tinubu’s Inauguration

“In fact, May 29 is a minus in the history of Nigeria as it stands for past tragedies in Nigeria’s history. We should go back to October but the doctrine of necessity can be adopted in three months, and the heavens will not fall.

“Three months would allow all court cases on election matters as heavens will not fall,” that will be “distracting to such officers if they are sworn in and court cases against them persist.”

2023 census should be postponed

The former Ohanaeze Ndigbo spokesperson further called for the proposed 2023 census and allow for a new government to tow that path.

Ibegbu warned that carrying out the population census at this time could be too controversial, and too inimical to the nation.
