#LekkiMassacre: 'Sanwo-Olu Lied, We Fired Into The Air With Blank Bullets' - Army | Daily Report Nigeria

The Nigerian Army has expressed displeasure over the actions of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, saying he lied about lied about the infamous shooting of peaceful and unarmed #ENDSARS protest at the Lekki toll gate in the state.

The Head of Military Intelligence and Commander 81 Division, Brigade, Ibrahim Taiwo, stated the Army is unhappy with the Governor’s comments while testifying before the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry about the October 20 incident.

Mr Taiwo lamented before the panel, that there were lots of untrue information targeted at the army, particularly the “lie” told by Mr Sanwo-Olu which the military is totally unhappy about.

“The Nigerian Army was not happy about two things, the first is the lie that he did not ask the army to intervene, while in fact, it was the proper thing to do as the police were already overrun.

“There were reasonable grounds to ask the army to intervene. Perhaps it was the way everything went that made him say so,” he said.

The commander emphatically stated that Mr Sanwo-Olu did put a call to the Chief of Army Staff and the General Officer Commanding the division after asking seeking the intervention of Commander of 9 Brigade.

“The Commander 9 Brigade cannot intervene because the procedure does not follow and asked him to call the Chief of Army Staff and the GOC,” he said.

The Commander also stressed that the army only fired into the air and not directly at the peaceful #EndSARS protesters.

Brigadier Taiwo explained that only blank bullets were used which cannot cause any damage to the flesh, arguing that one bullet had the potency to kill three people in a single shot if real bullets were truly fired.

However, Mr Taiwo who stated that soldiers were briefed before their deployment to the scene and debriefed after the operation, confirmed the presence of soldiers at the venue of the incident.
