Senate Approves N876b NDDC Budget, N451m For Aides

The Nigerian Senate has approved the 2023 budget of about eight hundred and seventy-six billion naira (N876b) for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Additionally, it approved four hundred and fifty-one million naira (N451m) for aides to 12 members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The breakdown of the provision for aides to board members was not provided by the NDDC.

However, the office of the chairman of the commission would gulp five hundred and seventy-six million naira ( N576m) in the 2023 budget.

The approval was made after the presentation and consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs by the acting Chairman, Senator Amos Bulus (APC, Gombe South).

The breakdown for the office of the chairman showed that the personnel cost would gulp one hundred and fifty-six million naira (N156m); overhead, three hundred and twelve million naira (N312m) and internal capital, one hundred and eight million naira (N108m).

The NDDC budget for the year was divided into five categories: personnel expenditure, overhead expenditure, internal capital expenditure, development projects, and Federal Government intervention in Niger Delta.

In summary, the budget of the commission, personnel expenditure would gulp over thirty-four billion naira (N34.2b); overhead expenditure, seventeen billion naira(N17 billion); internal capital expenditure over three billion naira (N3.7b) development projects, four hundred and ninety billion naira (N490b) and Federal Government intervention in Niger Delta, three hundred and thirty billion naira (N330b).

It was gathered that the revenue sources to finance the budget were revenue brought forward. They were about five billion naira (N5b) for Federal Government contribution: One hundred and nineteen billion naira ( N119b); Federal Government contribution (unpaid areas) four hundred and thirty billion naira (N430b); Oil companies contributions of two hundred and ninth seven billion naira ( N297b); Ecological funds, twenty billion naira (N20b) and other internally realized income of about five hundred million naira (N500m).
