The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has confirmed that its members are still selling petrol at one hundred and ninety-six per litre, despite the removal of fuel subsidy.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, IPMAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Yakubu Suleiman stated that the association had advised its members to continue selling the product at the appropriate pricing at their filling stations.

Suleiman emphasized that virtually all the stations were selling petrol at the appropriate pricing, with some stations selling at one hundred and ninety-five per litre and others at one hundred and ninety-six per litre.

He assured the public that IPMAN members were not taking advantage of the situation, but were simply following the association’s advice. He added that the absence of subsidy payments would take effect in July, not June.

Suleiman further explained
that IPMAN had deployed a Task Force team across the country to enforce the one hundred and ninety-six naira per litre price.

IPMAN spokesman stated that about one hundred retail outlets have already been sanctioned and shut down for selling at exorbitant prices and exploiting Nigerians, stressing that retail outlets selling petrol beyond the appropriate price were not members of IPMAN.

He said:

We have a task force that visits all the filling stations in the country. I want to assure you that they are actively working, and any filling station caught increasing the price just because of this announcement will face penalties. I want to assure Nigerians not to panic.”
