NNPCL Can’t Dictate Petrol Prices — Falana

NNPCL Can't Dictate Petrol Prices — Falana | Daily Report Nigeria

Nigerian human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has declared that only President Bola Tinubu can name the pump price of fuel and not the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Falana’s argument came after the NNPCL recently adjusted the fuel pump price for its mega filling stations across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Recall that Tinubu had earlier announced that the administration would not pay a dime on petrol subsidy during his inaugural speech.

However, Falana has condemned the NNPCL’s move, stating that only the Nigerian government has the power to fix the prices of oil product.

He pointed out that since the new administration was yet to appoint a Minister of Petroleum, the responsibility now rested with the President.

Therefore, the Lawyer maintained that the NNPCL’s move was illegal.

He said:

The NNPC has metamorphosed into a limited liability company. It is now NNPC Limited. To that extent, NNPC like Total, Exxon Mobil, and Shell operating in the oil industry, cannot announce an increase in the prices of petroleum products.”
