The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that Emefiele’s arrest follows his suspension as CBN governor by President Bola Tinubu on Friday evening.
Tinubu’s order was contained in a statement by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey.
Emefiele was subsequently instructed to transfer responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will serve as the acting Central Bank Governor until investigations and necessary reforms are completed.

However, Emefiele’s arrest by the secret police has multiplied the complexity of the situation.
Meanwhile, the DSS had filed a case (ex-parte motion) against Emefiele on December 7, 2022, seeking permission to arrest, probe and detain him.
This appeal was declined by the federal high court in Abuja on December 9, 2022.
