The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Monday, stated that it seized over a hundred exotic vehicles, including various models of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs).

The Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Jack Okpabi revealed that thirty-eight of these vehicles have been forfeited to the Federal Government.

Okpabi affirmed that the recent operation by the NCS, which led to the interception of over 100 Toyota Hilux, Toyota Land Cruiser, and other models of exotic vehicles, has saved the country from losing huge revenue that would have gone down the drain.

He further urged stakeholders to synergize with officers and men of the NCS to effectively suppress the menace of smuggling vehicles into Nigeria.

Okpabi said:

“You can see that we have over 100 vehicles and 38 have been forfeited to the Federal Government. The operation will lead to the recovery of over N400m from demand notices.”

He added that it was disheartening to witness the determination of some individuals to smuggle vehicles into Nigeria despite the numerous warnings and penalties associated with such illegal activities.

The Deputy Comptroller said:

“It is on this note that I want to emphasise that the service will not hesitate to bring to book any offender caught smuggling vehicles into Nigeria.”
