Asari Dokubo, a Niger Delta leader has told President Bola Tinubu not to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Recall that Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021 and is currently standing trial for terrorism.
It was learnt that with the entry of a new government, fresh calls are being made for Kanu’s release.

Dokubo believed that freeing the IPOB Leader will further ignite the ongoing war in some parts of the country such as the South East.
In 2017, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted Kanu bail, however, he flouted the bail conditions and subsequently fled the country. He was later re-arrested.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari had previously resisted pressure to release Kanu.
The Niger Delta Leader made the suggestion at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday urging Tinubu to ensure that Kanu faces the law.
He said:
“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu is rewarding criminality and rewarding gruesome murder of innocent people.
“He should face the law for the actions and instigations he has carried out.
“On security, I want to clearly say that there are full-scale wars going on in different parts of this country. In the South East, the IPOB/ESN is waging a full-scale war against the government of this country and many local governments, many communities are deserted, schools are closed, and hospitals are closed.”
