Nigeria’s Federal Government has re-opened the Same border for vehicle importation.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Director of Road Transport in the Ministry of Transportation, Ibrahim Musa.

Musa made the disclosure while speaking at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) meeting between contingents of Nigeria and Benin Republic.

According to Musa, the development was pre-empted by complaints by freight forwarders operating at the Seme border.

“I was here with the former Minister of State for Transportation when the freight forwarders pleaded that the border should be reactivated for the free movement of goods and services,” he said.

Musa said the former minister made gave directive to his team to prepare a memo to that effect, which was considered by the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

On his part, Dera Nnadi, the Customs Area Controller of Seme Border Command lamented that the service recorded a significant reduction in revenue following the suspension of vehicle importation by the Muhammadu Buharu administration.
