Four federal universities have rejected the 140 cut-off mark for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2023/2024 admission set by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the University of Ibadan(UI), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), and Federal University of Lagos (UNILAG) rather pegged their cumulative marks at 200 for admission seekers.

Earlier, all polytechnics and universities were advised to present admission scores ahead of the 2023 policy meeting on Saturday.

Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities had during the 2023 policy meeting unanimously agreed on 140 points as the minimum criteria for admission in 2023/2024.

However, JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede said universities were allowed to decide individual marks but stressed that no university can admit any candidate with a score below 140 points.

The examination body had placed the minimum criterion for admission in polytechnic programs at 100 points, and in the Faculty of Education – 100 points.

Meanwhile, seven institutions have set their minimum benchmark score at 200 and above, four of which are federal universities.
